Raising standards since 1988

The story began in 1988 when Dr Paul Hamlyn established ORE Pty Ltd (now known as OREAS) in Melbourne, Australia. From humble beginnings working from a single car garage and mixing rock samples in a cement mixer, the OREAS® brand is now recognised as the world leader in certified reference materials for the global mining industries. Our advanced production facility, intelligent software, world class distribution network and thirty years of refining processes have kept us at the forefront of CRM technology. Our products have helped thousands of geologists, chemists and metallurgists increase their accuracy and efficiency with uncompromised control in geological data.

We recognise that our environment, technologies and the global mining industry will continue to evolve and how we adapt to change is crucial to the long-term resilience and viability of our business. With a long history of innovation and many industry firsts, we pledge to stay dynamic, work hard and equip our clients with the tools they need, when and where they need them.

Our people

We are a team of talented hardworking individuals with many long-standing staff members ranging from Geologists, Chemists, IT Specialists, Technical and Admin personnel. Collectively, we understand what it takes to produce world class CRMs that are reliable for chemists and geologists to perform their best in any given context.

The health and safety of our workforce is first and foremost of critical importance to the operations of our business. We believe the best employees are happy employees, so we invest in creating programs and an inclusive culture that supports personal and professional development. By empowering our people with the tools and resources they need, whether that be leadership or technical training, they develop a high level of competency in directing positive change and improvements back into the business.

Our quality assurance

Our ISO 17034 accreditation is testament to our high level of operational expertise and following  the international standard for competence in reference material production, offering greater confidence and consistency for our clients.

Our proprietary processing technology is the reason we can offer quality assurance on the homogeneity of all CRMs produced, regardless of the source materials including ‘nuggety’ gold ores. This enables you to have absolute confidence in your data and assurance that any significant analytical error can be attributed to the laboratory process. We are the only manufacturer that both test and provide a guarantee* of homogeneity of gold (and PGE) across all OREAS® and custom CRMs irrespective of the presence of coarse gold in the source materials.

Every reference material we produce, whether it be for the OREAS® range or a custom CRM for a client, has been prepared using world’s best manufacturing standards. Our QC protocols ensure meticulous attention to detail at every step in our manufacturing process using state-of-the-art facilities.

*Quality Assurance Guarantee – a coefficient of variation (1RSD) of < 1% when calculated for a typical 30g fire assay using the results from 20 x≤1g INAA results and the Sampling Constant (as per the known relationship between SD and sample mass following Ingamells & Switzer, 1973).
